I enjoyed science in high school and wanted to work in chemical production. The highly practical degree offers diverse opportunities in fields like cosmetic chemistry and toxicology. Chemists are in high demand, thanks to strong hands-on training. The student association is active, organising weekly events that make it easy to connect with classmates, providing a fun balance to the challenging coursework.

I've always wanted to work in science, and I chose chemistry because it was my favorite subject in upper secondary school. The chemistry programme at the University of Iceland provides a solid foundation, both for further education and career wise. Chemists are particularly sought after in innovation, research and development, and for teaching. I have thoroughly enjoyed my studies. They are both demanding, enjoyable, and the social life is incredibly vibrant. Since the department is relatively small, everyone within the field knows each other, even across different years, and you also get to know the professors well. Then there is our student association, Hvarf, always organizing exciting events! I learned so much during these three years of study. I am especially grateful for all the experience gained in the laboratory, as there is a strong emphasis on hands-on learning in the programme I highly recommend studying chemistry!
